 Nikon has a long history of cameras. Starting in 1948 with the range finder camera Nikon 1 to the most recent flagship camera the digital Nikon D5.

Product Photography - Watch Photography

Product photography is an important part of marketing a product especially in luxury goods such as watches.

The blog post by Bert Buijsrogge at Fratellowatches.com gives a series of tips for better watch photography.




The list of tips is:
1. Tripod - close ups need to be clear and perfectly in focus, do not jeopardise on hand holding the camera

2. Accessories - build the scene with accessories which make sense and go together

3. Cleaning - there is absolutely no space for dust, fingerprints, ...

4. Hands - statistics shows that hands of the watch are most of the time at 10 past 10. This gives symmetry and an up rising dynamics to the image.

5. Composition - Watch and accessories need to be combined into a meaningful scene underlying the brands and models message.

6. ISO - use low iso values. Close ups go better with lower noise level.

7. Diffuse daylight - in close up images using strong and bright light gives strange shadows and strange contrast

8. Artificial light - using diffuse light is important

9. Macro and Close-up - use a lens with good short focusing capabilities. Using intermediate rings can help.

10. Practice makes perfect - one shot is as in all photographic disciplines not enough!
